When we bought Deux Poissons in 2016, we had a dream: to travel from London through the rivers and canals of Europe, eventually reaching the Black Sea. From there, we hope to continue through the Bosphorus Strait and into the Mediterranean, exploring new coastlines, cultures and waterways along the way.
As with many ambitious plans, the journey proved to be about much more than simply setting off. Before we could begin our adventure, Deux Poissons required an extensive restoration. What we originally thought would be a relatively straightforward refurbishment evolved into a multi-year project involving thousands of hours of work, countless decisions and more than a few unexpected challenges.
Yet, looking back, those years of preparation became part of the adventure itself. We learned new skills, met remarkable people, uncovered fascinating pieces of the boat's history and slowly transformed a sixty-year-old Feadship into the vessel that now carries us on our journey.
This section of the website follows that story. From researching routes and regulations, to preparing ourselves and the boat for life aboard, these pages document the planning, restoration and preparation that made our voyage possible.
Every great journey begins long before the ropes are untied.
